Look To Your Own Backyard. © 2009 J Picken With a major economic crisis, not looming, but in full swing, one would imagine government would be well and truly focusing on the serious issues arising within their own shores. People continue to struggle, financially, physically and mentally and yet millions and billions of dollars are spent, not yearly nor monthly or weekly, but DAILY fighting wars to correct the same problems faced on home soil. A bit hypocritical, another case of do as I say not as I do.
We are shown pictures of war torn areas which include people who are starving, homeless, sick and ill, those who have lost loved ones in the name of justice. Look to your own backyard, remove the blinkers, it's all here too... The United States is a world super power, shame she cannot look after her own, shame her own citizens experience the same level of suffering as those in war torn areas.
The poverty level in the United States is comparable to third world countries, yes THIRD WORLD. America is one of the richest countries in the world and yet how is the money spent? Certainly not on those who truly need it, not to improve health care nor accessibility, not on providing pensions or supplements which actually reach above the poverty line, not on those who actually have or are contributing to the richness of the nation.
How much more sacrifice can the poverty stricken make ? How many more lives will be needlessly lost before those in power can make a change? Barack Obama speaks of sacrifice, speaks of unity and speaks of change. Change is needed, there is no doubt about that, but will it be the right change? The new president needs to walk the talk, look to his own backyard and start by improving conditions at home, start with the nation he wishes to unite. |
