Choose your battles wisely. Don't allow old hurts or disappointments to keep you from living with gratitude, hope, joy, love, peace, forgiveness, faith and action. The past has passed. Do you have control over what happened? What role, if any, did you have in participating in your own misery? Are you willing to let it go and grow? Why do you want to hold on to it? Is it necessary? Is your anger triggering other issues that need to be addressed? Is your anger a wake up call to take action (i.e. abuse, self-esteem, relationships, injustice)? Anger is one letter short from danger. Is your unresolved anger causing you to lash out at the wrong time and to the wrong people? Is your anger jeopardizing your health, career and relationships? Has your anger robbed of sleep and a sense of humor? Are you tired of carrying the pain? Do you want to feel better? Do you want revenge or do you want renewal? Do you want more peace or more pain? Breathe! Breathe! Breathe! Be totally present in this moment, in this day, in your body, in your home, in your job, in your mind and in your heart. Write down on a piece of paper what you are angry about. Put the story behind your anger into perspective. Pray about it and then either let it go or take positive measures to put out the consuming toxic fire of anger." by Jewel Diamond Taylor Nothing drains your energy as dependably or wastes your time as surely as the effort you put into maintaining your own sense of self importance. Just imagine how gloriously free you can be by simply letting go of the need to feed your own ego. Every time you allow your ego to direct your actions, you place limits on what you can achieve and who you can become. Get beyond those concerns of the ego, and things that once seemed prohibitively difficult can become amazingly easy. It's hard to be completely honest with yourself and with others while protecting your own ego. Once you get past the ego, though, your thoughts and actions become empowered by truth and honesty, and are immensely more effective as a result. Get beyond ego and you get beyond envy, spite, the need to prove yourself, the need to blame or carry a grudge. You get beyond a whole lot of useless needs that would only drag you down. Think for a moment about all the limitations you impose on yourself. Get beyond your ego and you'll find yourself refreshingly free of them. You've made mistakes and yet you are able to recognize those mistakes for what they are, and to learn from them. There are times when you stumble, and wander away from the path, yet you're always able to get up and find your way back. There is within you the longing for truth, for goodness, for excellence, substance, and integrity. Though your actions sometimes contradict and compromise that longing, it never goes away. The very best of who you are is always somewhere within you. Choose often to connect with it, and to let it resonate throughout the details of your life. As each moment unfolds, remember the good and valuable things of which you are capable. Pay attention to that longing for goodness, and follow where it leads. Hold in your heart those times when you've experienced how beautiful and blessed life can be. Treasure and strengthen the part of you that draws pure joy from those moments. You have known the goodness of life and you know that it is as close to you as you wish to make it. Choose to keep it ever close by. Ralph Marston |
