A strong but exhausted woman, Mabel runs a café and rooming house during the day and tends to her bedridden husband at night. Stuck in a isolated mining town and desperate for help, she hires Jake Preston, (Kaiwi) who is running from a tragic past and struggling to find his place in the world as a gay man.
